Can Air Cleaning Devices Clean All Pollutants?

No, the power to remove particles, including micro-organisms, does not mean that filter and portable air cleaning devices are cleaning all the of the indoor air pollutants from inside your home, but these air cleaning devices do have the capability of reducing adverse health effects from indoor pollutants for individual such as children, the elderly, and people with asthma and allergies.

The use of clean air filters is your best defense  against indoor air pollutants. This is the simplest way to regulate or eliminate the sources of pollutants, and to ventilate a home with clean out of doors air. While air cleaning devices may help to manipulate the levels of airborne allergens, particles, or, in a few cases, gaseous pollutants in a home, they may not remove all health hazards such as noxious gases from indoor air pollutants.

 Air Pollutants Indoors

What are the pollutants that can affect our indoor air quality in a home:

    * Particulate matter can includes dust, smoke, pollen, animal dander, tobacco smoke, particles generated from combustion appliances such as cooking stoves, and particles associated with tiny organisms such as dust mites, molds, bacteria, and viruses.

    * Gaseous pollutants are noxious and come from combustion sources. These sources include gas cooking stoves, vehicle exhaust, and tobacco smoke. They also come from building materials, furnishings, and the use of products such as adhesives, paints, varnishes, cleaning products, and pesticides.

When you are making decisions about using air cleaning devices, consumers should also consider:

    * Installation: In-duct air cleaning devices have certain installation requirements that must be met, such as sufficient access for inspection during use, repairs, or maintenance.

    * Major Costs: These include the initial purchase, maintenance (such as cleaning or replacing filters and parts), and operation (such as electricity).

    * Odors: Air cleaning devices designed for particle removal are incapable of controlling gases and some odors. The odor and many of the carcinogenic gas-phase pollutants from tobacco smoke will still remain.

    * Soiling of Walls and Other Surfaces: Ion generators generally are not designed to remove the charged particles that they generate from the air. These charged particles may deposit on room surfaces, soiling walls and other surfaces.

    * Noise: Noise may be a problem with portable air cleaners containing a fan. Portable air cleaners without a fan are typically much less effective than units with a fan.

Air Conditioner Filters Tutorial

One of the most important things to maintain on your new cooling unit is the air conditioner filter. Dirt and debris in the filter will reduce the air flow and thus the effectiveness of your conditioning unit. Once your air conditioners filtering unit becomes very clogged with dirt and debris, those dirt particles will bypass the filter and start messing up the air quality along with the machines working parts.

While some air conditioner filters can be cleaned and reused, some need to be replaced altogether. If the filter on your cooling system can be replaced, it should be done or at least checked every month or two. Just like in any machine, the frequency that you change your air conditioning filters depends on the external operating conditions. Dusty environments combined with heavy use will speed up the need for a cleaning or replacement of your systems filters.

Traditionally most simple air conditioning unit filters were made from foam, fiberglass or another washable screen type material. These air conditioner filters collect particles via a sticky surface of oil or similar substance. One draw back with foam units is that there is a risk of small foam particles mixing into the expelled air. The second is that foam air conditioner filters wear out quicker than some more modern conditioning unit filter types.

The newest type of air conditioner filter is the electrostatic mesh. Electrostatic filters are neat in the way that they filter air compared to the old "sticky grab" method. The movement of air across the air conditioners synthetic weave of fibers creates a static charge that collects the dust on the filters surface. A side benefit to this electric charge on the filters surface is that is creates ozone which helps to kill bacteria and unpleasant odors.

You should change your air conditioner filters at regular intervals because when your filter is new, it grabs up to 10% of the dust and particles that cross over its oil filmed surface. As time passes more dust gets trapped in the filter, which is a good thing, but all those extra particles will cause less air flow to get through. By keeping your conditioning unit inspected and maintained at regular intervals will not only save you money in electric bills and repairs but also keep you air quality supremely conditioned.

What is the best make of air conditioner filter? As with all types of consumer products, there will varying opinions and lots of marketing to deal with. Often when trying to find a new product the best thing to do is ask the opinion of others. Air conditioner filters are no different. There are several websites and forums where you can go and look through the consumer reviews and make a better decision as to what air conditioner filter would best suit your needs.

 Indoor Pollution

You have possibly heard in the news, read on the internet or news paper that the air we need to sustain our planet is getting worse. Did you see China before the olympics? Everyone wearing face mask, beacause just by being outdoors they were exposed to pollution so potent that it was equal to smoking 3 packs of cigarettes  a day. What about the air in side homes in China? Do you think that the people there are wearing masks indoors? The pollution problem is not only Chinas, but the worlds problem. With trees are being cut the deforestation is going to affect all of us. The population is growing which of course leads to the addition of more automobiles on the road, and massive factories to produce all the wares the population demands. The air is starting to become extraordinarily polluted, and the clean air and clean water we take for granted everyday, may soon be unbreathable. The solution to the worlds pollution is going to global efforts from government, and citezens around the world. We  can do our part to help keep our plant clean, and we can also keep ourselves healthier by keeping our indoor air in our homes clean. Pollutants in the home that can also cause acute respiratory problems, and luckly many can be prevented with proper maintance of your homes air filters.

Do you think your home air is cleaner than the air outside?

Think again……. no, the air within your house is up to ten times more polluted than the air outside. The reason behind this is the air within your place has no way to get circulated around and so the air get obstructed with all kinds of chemicals and dust. Since the majority spend up to ninety percent of their time inside this could be a major problem.

The air circulating within your home if full of dust, smoke, pollen, animal dander, tobacco smoke, particles generated from combustion appliances such as cooking stoves, and particles associated with tiny organisms such as dust mites, molds, bacteria, and viruses. Other items that can pollute your indoor air are from chemicals such as household cleaning items, but indoor pollutants can also come from sources like your fireplace, leaky gas stoves or radon an invisible gas that is trapped inside your home. It can come up from the ground, and it is undetectable, but it can cause breathing problems and cancer.
If you suffer fromh asthma, enphasema, or any other respitory problems you may already be affected by the invisible pollutants in your home. With all these pollutants floating around, many invisable to the naked eye, you may not realize how toxic the air in your home is. If you have a chronic cough, runny nose, itchy eys, you may want to check your home for  unseen pollutants.
The long term affects of breathing polluted indoor air, can take many years to materialize, but if you live in area of the country that has a high pollution index outside as well, you may feel the affects much sooner.

You may not have many options for when you are outside, but when you are in your home, you can use air conditioner filters and furnace filters that remove dust, pollen, allergens, smoke and other particles from the air so your family can breathe easy. Change them on a regular basis, the little extra time and money you spend now may pay you back many times over, as you will be healthier, and spend less money on doctor bills and medications.
