Air Conditioner For Greater Energy Efficiency

Posted: August 17th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Home Improvement Articles | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Are you aware of the fact that around one sixth of the total electricity produced in the United States goes in air conditioning buildings? The U.S. Department of Energy has therefore increased the minimum energy efficiency rating for air conditioners on 23rd January 2006. The increased energy efficiency ratings would be useful for all, as it would help in reducing the energy bills as well as pollution. Do you know how efficient your air conditioner is? One way you can easily find it out is through SEER, i.e., an energy efficiency ratio measurement. The SEER, or seasonal energy efficiency ratio, is used for setting a basic standard of machines that are friendly to the environment. It rates an air conditioner on the basis of the amount of energy it can effectively use. If the number of SEER given on the conditioner is high, it goes to say that the energy efficiency of the machine is also high.

Since the concerns about the environment have increased, the amount of the SEER on air conditioning machines has also gone up. Whereas in 1992, the minimum SEER standard was 10, the new law passed in January 2006 has made all rumors true by stretching up the minimum SEER to 13. However, a machine with a higher SEER would mean that its price and the installation costs would also mount up. But this does not really seem to affect most people as they presume that a higher initial investment would ultimately be cost effective in the long run, and they would be able to save on their energy bills this way.

So the best way you can save energy is to bring home a good quality air conditioner. The most vital thing is to regularly maintain the cooling unit of your machine. You can ensure a maximum efficiency of your conditioner if you change the filters and verify the functioning of the machine from time to time. The information was given by a roofer who’s also crazy about kitchen design and solar panel.

3 Methods To Save Cash And Make Your House More Green

Posted: July 20th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Home Improvement Articles | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Home upgrades can actually save homeowners a lot of money if the projects are done right. Some projects to your house can actually save you money over time because they can dramatically reduce your utility bills. When most homeowners think of home upgrades they usually think about how much money they will spend. Here are 3 of the easiest “green” ways to improve your house and save yourself some cash over the long run:

Replace all of your air filters: Many air filters are cheap and not difficult to replace or clean. You can usually find air filters in window AC units and forced air heating systems. You should change the central AC filter two to four times a year. Clogged air filters can cause your heating systems to run harder and can increase your overall energy costs. You can even save money by making your own air cleaner filters or buying them in bulk quantities.

Use more insulation: The more insulation you put in your home, the less energy you will use to heat and cool your home. Insulation is expensive but you will often see big savings in your utility bills throughout the year. Insulation acts as a thermal barrier that helps block the outside weather from greatly affecting the comfort level inside your home. Many people remember to put insulation in their attics, but they do not know how to insulate a basement.

Replace out dated windows: Windows can leak over time, letting in drafty air which can make all your home’s insulation a waste of money. New windows can dramatically cut down on exterior air flow and lower your energy costs. Face it: your house has lots of big holes in the walls, and those holes are covered thin sheets of glass that let in lots of cold air when they shouldn’t.

By making your home more green you are not only helping the planet but also cutting your energy costs and saving lots of money in the long run. Making your home more green in its energy utilization can also save you some green cash over time. Yes, all of these projects will seem costly at first, but they will soon pay for themselves.

Cost Effective Option: Portable Air Conditioner

Posted: July 19th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Home Improvement Articles | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Can’t stand the unbearable heat even when it’s not summer? If you’re now in a place where the weather conditions are warmer than you anticipated, you’re going to need to decrease the heat and humidity inside your house in order to live comfortably.

You don’t have to endure all the sweating and craving for cool drinks, particularly because you have a boatload of options as far as your home cooling system is concerned. Install some ceiling fans and conventional air conditioning units. However, the best option is to get a portable air conditioner. Why?

Air cooling is possible with portable air conditioners, unlike with ordinary ceiling fans. Ceiling fans are a must for any home in a hot place, but they don’t really cool the air much, do they? When the day is particularly warm, your ceiling fan won’t be able to provide the relief you’re after. Do you really feel like you’re cooling down when all that comes out of your ceiling fan is warm air?.

Traditional air conditioners are an option, except that you have to make them permanent fixtures in a room. Admittedly, conventional air conditioning units are easier to find. But you have to think of the expense of installing a unit on every room in your house. If you have four rooms, that means buying an AC unit for each one. A centralized air conditioning system is out of the question if you’re on a budget. The installation and the units may be inexpensive (particularly when you buy second hand), but the electricity bills will be through the roof.

You can bring your portable AC when you leave the bedroom and stay in your living room for the rest of the night (and bring it along when you go back) . The best thing about these portable air conditioners is that you can also use them as fans if you just want the air to circulate around the room. These portable air conditioners can also double as dehumidifiers. Getting rid of exhaust is a breeze because of the way portable ACs are designed.

Lightweight portable air conditioners are abundant online and in appliance stores. But before you get one, you should check if the model you have chosen has all the required features. A good unit will have the cooling capacity you need and is energy efficient. Make sure it’s a model that you can use in a particular room. Look at other features like air speed, exhaust, dehumidifier function and thermostat.

This website will give you more information on portable air conditioner and will also cover Carrier air conditioner and Trane air conditioner

So What Does Air Conditioner Efficiency Mean?

Posted: May 22nd, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Home Improvement Articles | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Around 1992, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began their Energy Star rating program of voluntary labeling of products that attained strict energy-efficiency guidelines. Now partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy, the EPA estimates that in 2008 alone, the Energy Star program saved sufficient energy to prevent the emission of enough greenhouse gases that would be comparable to those produced by twenty nine million cars. Moreover, it is approximated that consumers saved $19 billion in this same year on their own utility expenses. Since the Energy Star rating has been added to home heating and cooling equipment in 1995, and utility expenses for heating and cooling amount to about one third of home energy bills annually, this means homeowners can save a bundle by installing appliances with Energy Star air conditioner efficiency ratings.

If your residence has a central air conditioner unit which is over a dozen years old, you might like to take into account buying a brand new, Energy Star rated model. Air conditioning equipment that qualifies to be rated Energy Star carries a greater efficiency rating than earlier, standard models do. This means about a 14% greater efficiency when utilizing the Energy Star model as opposed to a standard unit which in turn brings about great savings in utility costs and greenhouse gas emissions. However the preliminary cost of Energy Star air conditioning units can be greater than that of standard equipment, the additional cost will be more than offset by reduced energy costs during the life of the air conditioner.

It’s really simple to find out which products will be the most efficient for your dwelling. The Consortium for Energy Efficiency and the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute have created a website that lists air conditioning products that have efficiency ratings that fulfill the Energy Star guidelines. You will be able to reference this listing online cost-free so that you can determine which equipment has the best ratings and also could save you as much as possible in utility charges. Since the cost of utilities moves on to skyrocket, setting up new devices that will enhance your air conditioner efficiency can lead to the most cost-effective cooling in your own home.

About The Clean Air And Air Conditioners

Posted: May 1st, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Home Improvement Articles | Tags: , | No Comments »

When it’s scorching hot outside, air conditioners can really work wonders in keeping you cool! You need not be surprised if you find people darting through the street merely to rush into an air-conditioned room. But remember, that cooling yourself is not the last thing; staying healthy and fresh is what should be uppermost in your mind. This is exactly what a good air conditioner should do for you, because apart from cooling the room, an air conditioner also filters the air flowing into it. A quality air conditioning machine has a proper set up which thoroughly filters the outside air and allows only the clean air to enter. What you need, is an air conditioner that comes with an inbuilt air filter. The air conditioners available in the market are not quite capable of draining out everything harmful for you. So if you are really concerned that a regular inhaling of dust, fumes and smoke can affect your health in the long run, you should go for a high quality air conditioner, which has a proper air cleaner in it.

This type of air conditioning machine in your home or office becomes all the more useful if you or any one in your family happen to suffer from allergies or chronic breathing problems. Having a good air conditioner is not enough, so remember to let your doors and windows open from time to time and purge the impure air out of your room. Your house keeping style should also be taken care of.

Make it a point to clean and change the filter regularly. This way your air conditioner will drain out the bad air and allow only the clean and filtered air to flow in, said someone who’s tarding in rental cars and medic alert bracelet. So if you want clean air to flow through your home, your only option is to maintain your conditioner regularly. A filter, which is poorly maintained, is unable to clean air properly and decreases the cooling capacity of the machine. On top of that, it uses up more energy, and ultimately leads to a shorter longevity of the air conditioner.

A Hooray For The High-Velocity Air Conditioners

Posted: April 18th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Home Improvement Articles | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Chill out. Even if you have an older home, you don’t have to resign yourself to living without the comforts of central air-conditioning. A new technology called high-velocity air-conditioning can be added to almost any home-even those without existing ductwork. Also known as “mini-duct” systems, high-velocity air-conditioning typically uses an outdoor compressor to cool the air, combined with a high-pressure blower (usually mounted in the attic). Instead of bulky metal ductwork, this technology, developed by SpacePak, uses flexible tubing only two inches in diameter. The insulated tubes can be threaded behind walls or inside closets without damaging sheetrock or plaster. This makes the system much quieter than air-conditioning through traditional metal ductwork.

A mini-duct system also dehumidifies the air more effectively. The high-pressure blower compresses the air and allows it to be in contact with the cooling coils longer-which reduces the temperature and removes more humidity. Actually, “high-velocity” and mini-duct” systems are just different names for the same type of super-efficient and comfortable central air-conditioning systems. These systems are very quiet, distribute the cool air evenly throughout your house and dehumidify very effectively. The words “high velocity” and “pressure” may make you think these systems are noisy. Actually, you can barely hear them running and there is no air flow sound at the tiny outlets. In two-story houses, the mini-ducts are run down from the attic through the corners of the closets or inside walls to the first floor. In a single-story house, the entire system is located in the attic with outlets in the ceiling below. SpacePak’s mini-duct systems use ordinary, high-efficiency, outdoor air-conditioning compressor units. With this mini-duct system, cool air blows out from tiny two-inch openings in the ceiling or high on the walls. You can barely notice the outlets when they are painted the same color as the room. For a decorative look, natural wood outlets are available.

Buying The Right Air Conditioner

Posted: April 6th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Home Improvement Articles | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Buying an air conditioner for your home is a major investment requiring careful consideration of special factors like your cooling requirements, budget, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Air conditioning units are sold as:

Ducted systems: This air conditioning system will send cool air from a single unit to several rooms in your home using ducts typically constructed near the roof. This is a more complex system that requires the installation of a professional and is more expensive than other types of air conditioners..

Refrigerated system: This air conditioner cools the air in your room using the evaporation effect of a refrigerant liquid in its system. It is the common choice of many households because it functions well in very hot weather and lowers humidity inside homes..

Reverse cycle: This unit can cool or heat your home using just one system, making it ideal for homes that experience seasonal hot and cold temperatures.

Split type system: A split air conditioning system provides cooling comfort using an indoor and outdoor unit at reduced noise levels.. Split types require special construction skills for which you will need a qualified or licensed technician to install it.

Evaporative: This cooling system cooling system works by drawing hot air from the outside and turning it into cool air inside your home.. This unit is often sold as a movable appliance that you can easily transport where it is needed. A drawback of this type is that it does not function well in high humidity conditions.

Other factors that can affect your choice of an air conditioner include the following:

Cost of appliance: Ducted and split type units tend to be more expensive and require additional expenses for professional installation while evaporative coolers that are mobile are inexpensive. Additional features like a remote control, digital thermostat and automatic timer can increase the price of a unit so make sure to buy only features that you need.

Energy costs: Total energy consumption is expressed in kilowatts per hour (KWH) while a high star rating means fewer greenhouse gas emissions.. You’re looking for a unit with low KwH and one with a high energy star rating like 4 stars. Between two units bearing the same star rating and different energy consumptions, choose the one with lower KwH for greater energy savings.

Take time to compare the specifications and features of various units before buying an air conditioner to ensure that you are getting the best value for your money.

All About Air Conditioner Rentals

Posted: January 25th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: HVAC | Tags: , , | No Comments »

An air conditioner is a requirement in households, factories as well as events, functions etc. However, you cannot expect the person to install a new air conditioner for a one-day event. Even if you want to install an air conditioner at your place during the summer months and do not want to make such a big investment, then air conditioner rentals are the best thing for you. These are companies, which provide air conditioners on rent for a short term or a long-term basis. There are two types of Air conditioners that you can rent. The window Air conditioner is the more common variety used widely across the world and you also have a portable air conditioner, which can be moved, according to your preference.

The window air conditioner is the type, which is installed on your window. These are excellent for household usage or for small offices etc. You can easily get an air conditioner on rent at discounted prices during the hot summer months. When you contact an air conditioner rentals company, a representative will visit your place and inspect the room where the Air conditioner needs to be installed. He/she will then suggest what tonnage will be required for your room. The rent often differs according to the tonnage. Then you need to fill up the form and the company representatives will come with a carpenter, install the frame then the Air conditioner and finally will seal all the gaps (if any) between the air conditioner and the frame. Portable air conditioners can be rented according to their tonnage. They range from 2.5 to 30 tones. They can be used and then moved on their wheeled casters. If you rent this one for a house, you can use and then move it to a different room if needed.

Central Air Conditioning Systems

Posted: June 2nd, 2009 | Author: | Filed under: Air Conditoning and Heating, HVAC, HVAC Parts | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Central Air Conditioning Systems

Your thermostat should be properly calibrated. The proper refrigerant charge will provide longer equipment life, lower your utility bills and reduce the need for air conditioning service. The benefit of a clean condenser coil is proper heat rejection, reduced run time and lower energy bills. A dirty air conditioning condenser can lead to system failure and the need for you air conditioner to be repaired. As your air conditioning system removes heat from your home, humidity is extracted from the air.

You might not know it, but something changed in 2006 that will affect the choice of products available to you when it comes time to replace your Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment. That is an increase in efficiency of 30% from air conditioners that were 10 SEER, and an increase of 38% for a furnace that had an AFUE of 50%. Many of the systems available today are actually much more efficient than the government has mandated, giving you the potential of substantial savings on utility bills.

Below are some tips to keep your homes comfy and units working to their potential. They will be able to tell you very quickly whether or not you can get away with a small model when it comes to central air conditioning installation . Change the filters every 30-60 days. Rinse off the outside unit. You don’t want dirt and debris building up in the outside unit, so it’s best to clean this every few months. Use blinds and curtains where you can.

When the weather starts heating up and reaching the sweltering level, most people want nothing more than a cool place to relax and escape from the scorching heat. When thinking about purchasing a home, again especially in the warmer climes, it is a good idea to carefully examine the existing air conditioning system in the home. There are a number of different types of central air conditioning units available for homes.
